While VR can be challenging to acclimate to (thanks to motion sickness and often clunky controls), Polyarc found a way to tap into what feels natural and then some. While the platforming and puzzles are nothing too special (they just do the job, they are simple puzzles satisfyingly adapted to VR controls) the environments however are pure marvel. The level of polish and overall attention to detail in this game are high, which is a rare feat in VR games. There is no speech (except for the narrator’s, that reads the book), but the mouse use gestures. This is cleverly done, as when you are playing you are “in” the game, and when switching to cutscenes you are set back to the “real world”, where you are reading the story that is happening, similar to how it is done in The Neverending Story. The player is the “reader”, and is part of the game storytelling (ie you are a kind spirit for the little mouse). Moss is a fixed-screen puzzle-platformer VR game where you get to control and interact with a little mouse called Quill. The soundtrack consists of 11 in-game tracks with more than 57 minutes of music, including the bonus track “Home To Me,” featuring YouTube sensation Malukah. Graves accomplishes this by employing small and intimate-sounding instruments composed, arranged, and produced in a pastoral soundscape with enchanting Waltz-esque flair.
